What to Expect
Expect your child to understand that everyone is different and unique and can have different lifestyles, choices, or preferences but accept and embrace other people for who they are. They shall try to be more inclusive of others and connect with them positively.
Parental Play & Role
Converse: Have open, positive conversations about similarities and differences with your child. It helps lay the foundation for lifelong acceptance, confidence, and respect for others.
Cultivate Empathy and responsibility: Talk to the child about how important it is to understand another person and be helpful. Learning about different people can offer new experiences for the child.
Be a role model: Children observe and follow what elders do more than they say. Your actions must give them the right message.
Failures and unconscious prejudices may interfere with the process of being inclusive, but what is important is to be able to identify these and correct the mistakes.
