What your child will learn
How is it going to help your child
Parental role & play
Perspective taking: Encourage your child to listen to others describe their thoughts and feelings about a shared experience.
Conflict resolution: Help the child learn to use words to express their feelings and use this strategy instead of acting out and brainstorming ways to resolve a conflict.
Ask the child: To think from an adult’s perspective and give him small responsibilities where he has to give solutions. For example: plan the menu for dinner for the whole family.
What to expect
Child will be able to understand and recognise others' emotions. They are more likely to adjust better at school, and build positive relationships with less conflict.
Psychology insight
Once people can analyse the issue or the situation from both perspectives, they can easily find mutually beneficial solutions. Perspective-taking also communicates that one understands and respects others' thoughts, feelings, and needs.
