Why this course?

Description

Summary of the Lesson

In this session, the student witnesses  how to become self-reliant. Through reflective activities, the student learns to differentiate between situations where they can assert their independence and the conditions where they need help or support. The concept is introduced with a story, introspection and fun activities to ingrain the essence.

What your child will learn

I: Independently do homework, clean the desk, or socialise with peers.

C: Confidently assert their independence and take responsibility.

A: Acknowledging that specific tasks require adult supervision.

N: Nurturing their self-worth and self-esteem.

How is it going to help your child

  • Developing independence and self reliance.
  • Enhancing confidence and self esteem.
  • Becoming responsible and accountable.
  • Taking charge of the situation.

What to Expect

Expect your child to be confident, self reliant and enthusiastic about exploring different things on their own. Make sure to educate the child to seek your help and guidance in potentially dangerous situations.

Parental Play & Role

Assign doable tasks: Try to assign tasks to the child and let them take full responsibility for that task. Initially, give them easy tasks that the child can do without external support; it boosts the child's morale.

Rebrand failures as learnings: Your child may be afraid of failing and, as a result, may not want to take up a task. By encouraging mistakes and rebranding them as a learning opportunity, you can help your child normalise failures and work towards avoiding them in the future.

Encourage your child: Give the child at least 2 tasks that they should do on a daily basis. Make sure to check with them that they have completed the task.

Psychology Insight

There are a lot of tasks where children do need support. Still, there are situations when the child needs to operate independently, like- using electronic devices, going out of the house alone, being safe while playing with friends, and eating food. Making the child aware of these situations is crucial. This information will keep them alert and build confidence at the same time.
