Summary of the lesson

 

In this session, the student will learn  how to deal with a crisis effectively and efficiently. They will be able to handle and regulate their emotions and then come up with a strategy accordingly. They will understand  what a problem means and what it would require to deal with such a situation. The students will  also learn about getaway kits and how having these can help tackle a crisis. They got to know the essential and required items to deal with an emergency.

What your child will learn 

  • The importance of being calm in a crisis instead of panicking.
  • Gain knowledge of what a problem means and how to deal with it.
  • Identify the different things that should go in an emergency getaway kit.
  • Recognize the valuable items in case of emergencies.
  • To develop a strategy for tackling a crisis.

Parental role & play 

 

Trust Your Child: Let your child know that you are there for them, and you will together deal with any emergency if you ever have to face one. However, if they ever have

to face it alone, they need not fear it. Tell them you trust their ability, and you

will help them prepare to deal with it.

Reassure: Reassure your child  if s/he is scared of any unforeseen emergencies that may happen; you will be with them, and right now, everything is okay.

Review: Review  safety plans with your child; this will help them have a sense of

confidence to deal with whatever comes up.

Tell them to expect the unexpexted : Tell them that emergencies come unannounced and they should be ready to face it. For eg. Covid 19 pandemic. One can’t prepare for every crisis but one should be flexible to change and ready to adapt and adopt.

 

What to expect 

 

Expect your child to be prepared for emergencies and plan for one. They know how

to work on a getaway kit and plan a strategy so they will be resourceful. They will

be able to evaluate the situation and focus on the action plan to tackle it effectively

and efficiently. Trust them.

 

Psychology insight 

 

Children’s reactions are also formed partly based on what they see from the adults

around them. When parents and caregivers deal with a crisis calmly and confidently,they can provide the best support for their children.
