Summary of the Lesson 

 

Using a series of probable scenarios, this session aimed at understanding and handling cyberbullying. The student will be  encouraged to identify the bully, assess the seriousness of the situation, ask for help from adults and cope with the problem effectively. Using these skills, the student will protect themselves and their peers from being bullied.

 

What your child will learn 

  • To identify the instances of cyberbullying 
  • To recognize the potential harm of social media 
  • To remain cautious while being on social media
  • To “KNOW” the proper steps to be taken in times of need

What to Expect 

Expect the child to identify cyberbullies, assess the seriousness of the situation and take immediate action by informing the adults around them. 

 

Parental Play & Role 


Talk to your child and pay attention to details like- who they interact with, what they do online, how they feel or behave after the interaction,etc. 

Reassure the child: Cyberbullying can be hard to deal with, and at times there’s shame and guilt associated with it. Reassure your child that you are there for them and never judge them. 

Discuss possible situations: Pose questions to them based on likely scenarios related to cyberbullying and guide them on how you will help them deal with the problems.

 

Psychology Insight 

IIn 2021, 25% of the population self-harmed themselves because of cyberbullying. Research also shows that adolescents are at a higher risk of depression if reported bullying. This is the reason why your child needs to be aware and protected against bullying.
