Description

Summary of the lesson 

In this session, the child understands what it means to be unique; it isn't bad, rather extraordinary. Through a story of a small dragon, the teacher shows uniqueness in everything around them and how that uniqueness becomes their identity. The child learns to value themselves and accept their individuality. Being aware of one’s unique qualities builds confidence and high self-esteem in an individual.

How is it going to help your child 

This session is a building block in the child's overall personality development. It will help the child to reflect and understand that being different from someone else is okay, and they can treasure and make it their strength. They will feel confident in themselves. Being different doesn't mean bad instead, it means exceptional.

 

Parent role & play 

 

• Parents can talk with their child and appreciate their unique behaviour/ hair/trait/ skill/culture/country/ language/clothes and how they are different in their own way.
• If you see some extraordinary quality about your child, appreciate them for it and reiterate the uniqueness to them.
• Let the child explore their uniqueness. Being extraordinary calls for celebration

What to expect 

Expect the child to appreciate differences between people and be happy about being unique in their own way. The child will expect you to do the same, so be aware not to criticise anyone before them.

Children who know their uniqueness are confident and can turn their weaknesses into their biggest strengths. Valuing uniqueness can enable a person to be more resilient and successful in the long run.
